In the wake of Sheen's confession, Fiat has decided to shelve plans of releasing a 124 Spider advertisement featuring the actor. Sheen was a part of the Italian carmaker's Abarth 500 promos some years back and was also called in for the 124 Spider promotional vid recently. But following the controversial actor's HIV statement, it is now unlikely that Fiat will go ahead with the plans, according to reports in the media. It is believed that Sheen's tainted image for having slept with women despite being secretly HIV positive will not help the cause of the 124 Spider's promotions anymore; the sales of the car could in fact take a hit with him remaining associated with it.
Interestingly, a teaser of the video clip was aired on November 3 at a sneak preview event for the Fiat 124 Spider organized at FCA's headquarters in Michigan, days before Sheen pulled the rabbit out of his hat. However, the ad didn't feature in the recently concluded LA Auto Show as marketing chief Olivier Francois has decided to put it in a "drawer of creative material", according to spokeswoman Diane Martin.
Fiat's new sports segment entrant, the 124 Spider is expected to go on sale in United States and Europe in 2016.
