2014 Malaysian Moto2 and Moto3 Race Report

Maverick Vinales

Moto2: Vinales scores a duet

Maverick Vinales maintained his wining form from Motegi as he won the 2014 Malaysian GP Moto2 class at Sepang. Vinales dominated proceedings from the start itself. After making a great start to grab the lead, the Spanish rider never looked back as he always had a comfortable lead over his rivals to coast his way across the finish line to win the penultimate race of the 2014 season. But the real battle was brewing behind Vinales's back as Marc VDS Racing team-mates, Mika Kallio and Esteve Rabat were involved in a scuffle for second position. But by the closing stages of the race, Kallio was able to etch out a comfortable lead over his team-mate to cross the finish line over eight seconds ahead of him. But Rabat was more than happy with the third position as it was enough for him to be crowned the 2014 Moto2 champion as he now has an unconquerable lead of 37 points with only one race remaining.

Effren Vazquez

Moto3: Vazquez triumphs at Sepang

In yet another closely contested race, it was Effren Vazquez who emerged victorious to win the Moto3 class at Sepang. But it wasn't an easy victory for Vazquez as the lead kept on shuffling between Alex Rins, Jack Miller and himself. But a stunning last lap saw the Spanish rider clinch the race win as he muscled his way past Rins before the Honda power pushed him ahead of Jack Miller in the last corner of the race. It was Vazquez's second win of the 2014 season. Miller followed Vazquez in second position while Rins took the final step on the podium. The Australian rider would be content with the second place as it keeps him in the reckoning for the championship title before the final race of the season at Valencia. Alex Marquez who leads the championship had a disappointing race to finish in fifth place that saw his lead reduced to 11 points.
