Sebastian Vettel wins 2015 Singapore GP

Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari

Secure pole position and it is half the battle won at the Singapore Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel proved this statement true as he took a fantastic win from pole position at this year's Singapore GP. The German posted a blistering lap to secure pole and from then on it was easy going for the German till the chequered flag. Kimi Raikkonen supported the German well with a comfortable third place finish bringing home valuable 37 points for the team. Vettel is now just eight points behind second placed Nico Rosberg in the hunt for the Drivers' Championship and 49 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton.

Hard Luck Hamilton

It wasn't a good day in office for Championship leader Lewis Hamilton. He couldn't make an impression in qualifying having secured fifth place on the grid. To make matters worse, Hamilton complained of loss of power on lap 23. Despite that, the Brit continued for another 10 laps before asking the team to retire him at the end of lap 32. This was the first DNF for the reigning champion in 2015. Starting from sixth place, Rosberg too struggled to find his way ahead and had to settle for a fourth place finish. Thankfully for Hamilton his lead over Rosberg was only cut down by 12 points.

Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull

Bleeding Blue

Red Bull Racing had a decent outing at Singapore as Daniel Ricciardo took second place and team-mate Daniil Kvyat finished in a respectable sixth. Ricciardo tried hard to push Vettel and take the lead, but never really had the pace to make the move stick. The Australian did well to defend his position from Raikkonen. Kvyat had a good fourth place on the grid to start from, but lost time during both his pit stops which he made during the safety car periods. Kvyat finished the race in sixth place.

Sergio Perez, Force India

Sergio Perez had another strong weekend in Singapore as he jumped up from his 13th place on the grid to finish seventh. This was his third consecutive points finish for the team. In the final stages of the race, the Mexican held off Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz's challenge well bringing home 6 points for the team. Team-mate Nico Hulkenberg though wasn't as lucky. The German swept across Massa on turn 2 as the latter was exiting the pit-lane. Contact between the two drivers pushed Hulkenberg into the opposing barrier bringing an end to his race. Hulkenberg has been given a 3 place grid penalty for causing collision.

Twist in Tale

Mercedes is comfortably sitting at the top of the score sheet with a cushion of over 150 points ahead of Ferrari. The driver's championship though is starting to get interesting. Sebastian Vettel's win at the Singapore Grand Prix has opened up the season fairly well. He is now just eight point behind Rosberg and 49 points shy of Hamilton. While Hamilton's cushion on Rosberg and Vettel is fairly large to make his sweat, the four-time champion's chance to move up to second in the run for the championship is brighter than ever. A few more wins like this could change the game in the Drivers' Championship.
