Launched in 2010 as a replacement for the highly acclaimed, yet not exactly good-looking Amanti, the Kia Cadenza opened a new chapter for the Korean automaker, as a huge step forward in the luxury, full-size market. Designed by former Audi chief designer Peter Schreyer, the Cadenza boasted attractive exterior styling, a powerful V-6 engine and more standard equipment than rival offerings from BMW or Mercedes-Benz.
The Cadenza came to the U.S. for the 2014 model year, shorty after receiving its mid-cycle facelift. Its well-equipped base model and peppy powerplant quickly made the Korean sedan one of the best deals for the buck in the American luxury market.
After only three years on the North American market, the first-generation Cadenza is being replaced by a redesigned sedan. Launched at the 2016 New York Auto Show, the new full-size four door features new styling, updated luxury features, and a more powerful V-6 engine.
Set to go on sale in late 2016, the new Cadenza aims to add "an extra dose of excitement" to the large-car segment with its striking looks and upscale features. Does it have what it takes to give the more established premium sedans a run for their money? Keep reading to find out.
