Citroën C3

It’s been six years since the second-generation Citroën C3 entered the fold, and in those six years, there was just one minor facelift in 2013 that toned down the exterior look a bit. Now, we’re finally getting a first look at the next-gen C3 as it was put through the paces on public roadways. The next-gen model is under heavy camouflage, but it looks like the front fascia will recess under the hood, creating a small, non-aerodynamic lip, a larger upper air inlet, reshaped rear quarter windows, all new exterior light units, and a revised rear fascia with a higher-sitting license plate recess. We have yet to get a glimpse of the interior, but we do know that the next C3 will be the home for several petroleum- and diesel-powered engines. Furthermore, the new C3 could spawn a new high-performance “Sport” version thanks to Citroën using a rally-spec variant in the World Rally Championship.

These new spy shots come six months after we got to lay eyes on the next-gen C3 Picasso, and with the old C3 getting a little long in the tooth, it is exciting to see that Citroën is hard at work on the next evolution of the model. Considering the prototype is so well covered, it’s likely that this was its first trip into the wild, and based on the body lean in one of the images, Citroën still has some work to do on the suspension and chassis. Rumors are suggesting that the new model will make its long-awaited debut at the Paris Auto Show in October, but the Geneva Auto Show in March of 2017 is a little more likely.

It will be quite a while before the C3 sheds all of its concealing camo, so until it does, let’s see what we can make out from the images in my full review below.
