Porsche Panamera

The Panamera has been around since 2009, when it arrived as Porsche’s first four-door sedan. Much like the Cayenne SUV, the Panamera was developed to help the brand expand into new segments, attract a new category of buyers, and finance the costly development of range-topping supercars such as the 918 Spyder. For the most part, the Panamera is a success thanks to its tremendous performance, luxurious interior, and wide variety of models. Updated for the 2013 model year, the first-generation Panamera will be replaced by a redesigned version in 2017.

Our spy photographers were able to snag several shots of the updated Panamera as it trotted over German roads wearing almost no camouflage. The bare-bodied test mule affords us a rather unobstructed view at the Panamera’s future styling. Most of the changes are held within the front and rear fascias, as well as the side windows and character lines running along the doors. Its overall shape remains largely unchanged.

While Porsche is understandably shy with the details, rumors suggest a new set of powertrain options will be among the generational changes. The rumors, a year old at this point, speculate an all-new V-6 and V-8 powerplant will replace the aging engines in the current car.

We suspect the 2018 Panamera will make its official debut sometime in late 2016, possibly at the Paris Motor Show. Pricing is likely to increase only slightly, keeping it competing against its current competitors.

Updated 06/06/2016: Our spy photographers caught the upcoming Panamera out for a new testing session, and this time the luxury sedan is almost completely undisguised.
