Skoda Kodiaq

Remember the Skoda VisionS that debuted earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show? Well, it’s only been a few months since then, but it looks like Skoda has been busy at working putting together a production variant of the VisionS that will be called the Kodiaq. Of course, the VisionS was said to represent Skoda’s new design philosophy, so the Kodiaq will share some styling DNA with it, but based on the first spy shots of the Kodiaq in action, it’s not going to be anywhere near as futuristic looking.

When our photographers caught the Kodiaq out in the wild, It wasn’t wearing the traditional camo, but a good portion of the body is being covered by black padding that is designed to hide the little details underneath. On top of that, the man behind the wheel must be a veteran mule driver because he waited until nearly dusk before hitting the streets and he knew enough to drive with the brights on to conceal the design qualities of the headlight lenses.

At this time, details about the new Kodiaq are pretty thin, but we do know it will have a number of engine options depending on the market, third-row seating to supply ample room for up to seven passengers, and it will compete against models like the Mercedes GLC-Class and the Audi Q5. Also, despite being larger like the BMW X5, it will compete against the X3 as far as pricing and power go, so it should make one interesting entry into the SUV market. The Kodiaq is expected to make its world debut, ready to run wild, at the Paris Auto Show, so let’s take a few minutes to talk about everything we do know about Skoda’s upcoming SUV.
