New Ford Figo with automatic transmission caught testing

New Ford Figo automatic transmission

The upcoming Ford Figo hatchback has been caught testing with an automatic transmission. The Ford Figo automatic was caught testing by a Team BHP member. From the image, we can see the gear stick is similar to the one found on the Ford EcoSport with the 'S' mode along with the standard 'P', 'R', 'N' and 'D' modes. This means that the auto transmission could be DCT unit similar to the Ford EcoSport however there is no confirmation for the above. If it is a DCT unit then the new Ford Figo hatchback will be the cheapest car in India to offer a dual clutch transmission.

Currently the dual clutch "Powershift" transmission is offered with the 1.5-litre petrol motor found on the Ford EcoSport. The new Ford Figo will be powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine churning out 85PS that will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel mill option will most likely be the 1.5-litre TDCi motor sourced from the Ford EcoSport. The DCT version of the new Ford Figo will be the top-spec variant of the upcoming hatchback offering.

If Ford does bring in the new Figo with a DCT transmission it will be the second hatchback offering in India after the Volkswagen Polo to offer a dual clutch gearbox. The new Ford Figo is expected to be launched in the Indian four-wheeler market by mid-2015. It will be manufactured at its new production plant in Sanand, Gujarat that will be inaugurated on March 26th. The new Ford Figo will rival the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio and the upcoming Tata Kite in our market and will be launched with an estimated pricing of Rs 4.2 lakh.
