We expect Honda to show up at the Geneva Auto Show with a new concept that previews the tenth-generation Civic hatchback, but if you’re curious as to what the hatch will look like, look no further. What we have here are photos of the tenth-gen hatch in production form, doing some on-road testing. The car in the pictures is covered in camouflage, but there is no padding, so we can actually make out some of its design cues.
We already know that the hatchback will launch in the first few months of 2017 in Europe, but it is a global car, so it will be exported from Europe to other markets, including the United States. This model retains about 80 percent of the DNA from the tenth-generation Civic Sedan, so we already know what to expect all the way back to rear doors.
These are the first shots of the hatchback variant of the tenth-gen that we’ve seen, aside from the 2017 Type R prototype that was caught racing around the Nürburgring a while back. So, will the new Civic Hatchback be able to take on the Volkswagen Golf and Opel Astra, or will it be a flop despite is sportier appearance up front? It is hard to say yet, but we’re here to take an in-depth look to see what it offers in terms of competition and style.
Updated 08/11/2016: The guys over CivicX.com caught the upcoming Civic Hatchback completely undisguised while being loaded on the Southampton docks in the U.K. As pretty much no surprise to anyone, the production version will remain faithful to the concept was we’ve seen at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Expect the 2017 Civic Hatchback to be unveiled in early October at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
