When Mercedes-Benz introduced the AMG GT and GT S models in 2014, it did so knowing that when both models hit the market, it’s going to catch the eye of the aftermarket industry. Two years into its existence, that’s exactly what has happened to the AMG GTs. The GT S, in particular, has turned into quite the aftermarket darling with Piecha Design becoming the latest tuner to present its program for the sports car. While the kit itself is still incomplete – a debut has been set for September 4, 2016 – the tuner’s engine upgrade is already promising an output of 612 horsepower and 619 pound-feet of torque.
In addition to the modifications made to the AMG GT S’s 4.0-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine, Piecha Design is also preparing an aerodynamic body kit with plenty of carbon fiber bits. A new set of wheels is also included in the program, as are upgrades made to the car’s chassis and suspension. In other words, Piecha Design is working on a comprehensive tuning experience for the popular Mercedes sports car that should give all other tuning kits for the AMG GT S a run for their money.
The big question now is whether Piecha Design can deliver on its promise. From the looks of things, it’s well on its way down that road, but until the complete program is unveiled, it’s a little too early to pass any concrete judgments other than the parts of the kit that have already been mentioned on the tuner’s website.
