Chevrolet Equinox

The second-generation Chevy Equinox hit showrooms for the 2010 model year and went through a refresh for the 2016 model year. Despite the refresh, the second-gen model is due to be replaced in the next year or two, so it should come as no surprise that we’ve caught the next-generation Equinox testing in southern Europe. For this testing session, the test mule had a full team on board, which is a sign that the next Equinox might be used as the basis for the Opel and Vauxhall branded Antara. In this set of spy shots, the next-gen Equinox is in its early testing stages, so it is covered in camo and wearing a three-piece suit to cover up a majority of the details. At this point, it is even sporting exterior decoy lighting and is lacking a proper exhaust pipe, but it does look like the roof slopes down a little more in the rear.

At this point, details about the next-gen Equinox are far from available, but we know that the Delta platform that underpins the crossover will be optimized for this larger model and should support all-wheel drive for the higher trim levels, with front-wheel drive coming standard. Given the overall size of the mule in these pictures, we don’t expect the next-gen model to offer third-row seating. Instead, it will support up to five passengers to keep the rear open for cargo, luggage, and all the stuff your wife shouldn’t be buying while you’re at work.

With that said, we’re expecting the next-gen Equinox, or Antara in Europe, to debut sometime in the first half of 2017, which would have it hitting showrooms for the 2018 model year. For now, let’s take a better look at these spy shots and see what we can make out from this heavily covered prototype.
