At this point, I’m fairly certain that anyone reading TopSpeed has already seen the trailers and extended clips of the upcoming Furious 7 movie, which includes the pivotal scene where Dom & Co. drive their cars out the back of a C-130 cargo plane. A new featurette from the Fast & Furious creators shows some of the live action that went into creating the scene.
In the official movie trailers, we can see the Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger, Jeep Wrangler and Subaru WRX STI all being driven out of a Boeing C-17 together, but to create the scene, a smaller Lockheed C-130 was used and the cars were parachuted out two at a time. Other than the airplane and the pair of falling cars, each “jump” also required three skydivers and a helicopter to get the shots. Needless to say, there was plenty of chaos as everyone involved tried to capture the cars free-falling to the ground, and those pulling off the stunt talk about how unpredictably the cars acted during their descents, and what an incredible technical feat pulling it off was.
If you’re eagerly anticipating the movie hitting theaters on April 3, be sure to check out what it took to make just one of Furious 7’s many action-packed scenes.
If this doesn’t win the stunt of the year award, I’ll be surprised.
