There is no denying the fact that Jaguar is on a roll with Ian Callum at the helm of design. The F-Type is a sight for sore eyes and the Jaguar XE revealed late last year is also quite an attractive sedan. Now the XE has just picked up a coveted design award at the 30th Festival Automobile International in Paris. Adjudged the most beautiful car of 2014, the Jaguar XE faced stiff competition from the Mazda MX-5, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and the Fiat 500X. The award is decided by a public vote, with more than 100,000 votes cast across 59 countries. The Jaguar XE won the award with 28 percent of the votes.
The Jaguar XE will be coming to India by early 2016 to take on the likes of the BMW 3-series, new Mercedes-Benz C-class and the Audi A4. Till now Jaguar didn't have a sedan in this range to take the fight to the big German three in a segment that has potential for high numbers. Jaguar has got the design spot on with a good mix of Jaguar family design cues in all its major elements. The front grille for instance resembles the XJ and the updated XF design and the long bonnet and gills are elements inspired by the gorgeous F-Type. The XE has a sporty stance in side profile accentuated by the sloping roofline and attractive alloy wheel design.
Jaguar has also developed a new range of engines christened the Ingenium family. Jagaur says that these new engines have inherently low levels of vibration due to low friction all-aluminium construction, stiff cylinder blocks and twin balancer shafts. They range from 2-litre 4-cylinder units to a 3.0-litre V6 with turbochargers and/or superchargers.
