Lamborghini has announced a luxury SUV as the third model to join the Huracan and Aventador in 2018. The SUV will be the production version of the Urus concept showcased at the Beijing Auto Show in 2012. The SUV is touted to be Lamborghini's Cayenne for the massive sales push Porsche saw after it introduced its first SUV. The Cayenne opened new markets for Porsche, ones where the sportscar maker was known more for its SUVs than its core models.
The Lamborghini SUV will be produced at the company's Sant' Agata Bolognese plant on a new production line and the company has said that it will invest hundreds of millions of Euros over the lifecycle of this new SUV. Lamborghini has been clear in stating that it will be an SUV, so we don't expect the Urus' crossover form to carry over directly.
What you can expect is an SUV that drives like no SUV should considering the Raging Bull has a reputation to protect.
The SUV will join the recently growing league of high end SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga, Jaguar F-Pace, Aston Martin DBX and Maserati Levante when it goes into production. Lamborghini being part of the Volkswagen Group will position the SUV most likely above the Cayenne to avoid cannibalization.
No technical details are available right now but bets are on a hybrid powertrain shown in the Asterion concept last year in Paris.
