Mahindra first introduced the XUV 500 in September 2011, but since then hasn't given it a substantial upgrade. Now with its popular SUV starting to show its age on the sales charts, Mahindra is expected to launch a refreshed version on May 25.
Pictures of the facelifted XUV 500 have been making their rounds on the internet for a while now. Spy shots reveal that the updated version will get a grille that looks similar to the Scorpio. The headlamps are expected to be redesigned and may also get Daytime Running Lamps. Spy shots of the new Mahindra XUV 500 facelift revealed it to sport chrome door handles, a redesign of the registration plate enclosure and new LED units for the spoiler integrated stoplight. The alloy wheels too are expected to be of a new look. The interiors too have been refreshed and now come with a beige dashboard.
Changes to the facelifted Mahindra XUV 500 might be restricted to the cosmetic front. Under the hood, it will come with the same 2.2-litre 4-cylinder oil burner churning out 140PS of power and 330Nm of torque.
For long after it was launched the XUV 500 was ruling the sales charts in its class but off late its sales have been gradually reducing. With this facelift Mahindra will be hoping to bring it back to its peak. On its launch, the facelifted Mahindra XUV 500 will go up against the likes of the 2015 Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano.
