Tesla Model 3

Say what you will about Tesla – the company’s ambition is undeniable. Founded in 2003, the California-based electric carmaker set out with the goal of overturning the auto industry status quo. To that end, Tesla’s latest play (and arguably its most important) is called the Model 3. Framed as a more affordable alternative to the highly successful Model S and the new Model X SUV, the Model 3 was also presented as the most efficient compact EV since Elon Musk first announced its development a couple of years ago. After countless rumors and lots of speculative info as to what the Model 3 might bring to the market, Tesla smallest vehicle yet was finally unveiled.

Details are still scant as Tesla has yet to release complete specifications, but preliminary data suggests the Model 3 is as quick as a gasoline-powered compact and boasts the best range in the sub-midsize segment. And, even though there’s much to learn about this new EV and deliveries won’t commence until 2017, Musk announced that Tesla received no fewer than 115,000 pre-orders for the Model 3. That’s a bit more than the Model S’ global sales between 2012 and 2015 (107,228 units)!

So, given what we know at this point, what conclusions can we draw? Read on to find out.
