Ferrari and Swiss watchmaker Hublot have a long and decorated history of collaboration. Over the years, we’ve seen a few of the creations that they’ve made, including the Big Bang Ferrari 305, the 250 GTO Classic Fusion, and the Big Bang Ferrari 60th Anniversary Edition, among others. Now we have the MP-05 LaFerrari, a watch that’s so ridiculously awe-inspiring that Hublot even created a CGI-laden promotional video featuring the Ferrari FXX K doing some stunts in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that the actual version wouldn’t be caught dead doing in real life.
Lest we forget though, the actual star of the video is the MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire, the newest addition to the MP-05 LaFerrari family of super watches. The familiar futuristic design of the MP-05 is alive and present in this one. The only difference is that this particular case is made from sapphire blocks that have been machined from more than 600 hours of workmanship specifically to make its peculiar shape. It also features ultra lightweight carbon components and has 11 series-coupled barrels set in a spine formation that takes control of the movements inside the watch. All told, the MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire has 637 unique components and even with all those minute items, it only weighs 53.5 grams. On top of all that, it has a 50-day power reserve, which apparently is the first of its kind from Hublot. Who knew, right?
The watch was even the star of an exclusive pre-release that was held at the Ace Museum in Los Angeles. Imagine that. I guess it’s not hard to considering that a single MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire costs $250,000, which, believe it or not, is more expensive than buying a brand-new Ferrari 488 GTB. Oh yes, the price of luxury certainly knows no bounds.
