General Motors (GM) has begun vehicle exports from India, with its first shipment to Chile. The company shipped 140 units of the left-hand-drive Chevrolet Beat from the Mumbai port to Chile on September 25.
Commenting on the exports, Arvind Saxena, President and Managing Director, GM India, said, "The first shipment of Chevrolet Beats demonstrates our commitment to make our India-built products available in global markets."
General Motors manufactures the Chevrolet Beat at its manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra. andlrm;This hatchback is available with both petrol and diesel engines options, and is the company's best-selling model in India. It is also built and sold in many other markets around the world.
As part of GM CEO Mary Barra's recent trip to India, she participated in the roll out of the first Chevrolet Beat for export on September 10. The company intends to ship cars to Chile on a monthly basis.
The company's manufacturing facility at Talegaon has an annual production capacity of 1,70,000 vehicles and 1,60,000 engines. The Chevrolet portfolio in India includes the Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Tavera, Chevrolet Enjoy and Chevrolet Captiva.
