Spy Shots: Next-Generation Chevrolet Camaro Hits the Track

The next-generation Chevrolet Camaro has made yet another public appearance, shortly after being spotted outside Germany’s Nurburgring track. This time around, GM’s upcoming pony ditched the public road and took on the Nordschleife course for a proper, high-speed testing session and some hot laps. Fortunately, our trusty spy photographers were right on the spot to capture some snapshots with the Camaro in action.

As you might have already guessed, we are looking at the same prototype we saw earlier this week. The camouflage remains unchanged, so there are no new details for us to take in, but the Camaro’s presence on the Nurburgring says a lot about the pony’s development. For one, with the engineers now down to tuning the vehicle’s steering and suspension, among others, it’s likely the exterior design is almost production ready. What you see is what you’ll get. Sure, there’s nothing much to see behind that swirly wrap, but a few styling cues, such as the narrow grille and headlamps, a more sculpted waistline, and the new rear spoiler are obvious.

Secondly, Chevy is elbows deep in making the sixth-generation Camaro the most track-capable version of the nameplate, which isn’t surprising considering the advancements Ford has made with the 2015 Mustang. The 2016 Camaro needs to be in outstanding shape if GM wants to deliver a proper competitor for the sixth-gen ’Stang, and the team behind the project is doing just that. Whether it will succeed or not, we’ll find out sometime in 2015.
