Honda City reclaims C-segment crown from Ciaz

Honda City outsells Maruti Ciaz in November 2014

Honda has reclaimed the C-segment top spot in November 2014 from a brief slip in sales in October and a lost crown to the Maruti Ciaz. The City clocked 7,252 unit sales in November 2014, 2,020 units more than the Maruti Ciaz making it the firm C-segment favourite for the time being. Sales of the Honda City hit a rough patch for a few months, not because of any particular problem with the car or new competition, but for genuine demand-supply gap.

Since Honda shifted production of the City to their new plant in Tapukara, the City saw a month's loss in sales and then lower numbers than the sedan could reach before the production shift. It took a few months for Honda to smoothen out production to ensure quality is maintained in every unit shipping off the assembly line. In November, Honda added a second shift at the new plant which has helped availability of the City. Now that the plant is up to full swing, the City is realizing its potential again and has comfortably outsold the Maruti Ciaz.

Mobilio sales have meanwhile dipped from the 5,000+ units it mustered around the time of its launch to 3,589 units in November. The Amaze sold 3,310 units and the Brio sold 1,050 units in the same period. The petrol only CR-V sold 62 units, which isn't bad for the segment. Honda sold a total of 15,263 units in November in India and exported 890 units.
