The BBC Will Not Renew Jeremy Clarkson's Contract

The Jeremy Clarkson "Fracas-gate" scandal has finally come to an end, although not in a positive way for the millions who supported the TV presenter. The BBC announced today that Jeremy Clarkson’s contract will not be renewed, following an internal investigation concerning an incident in which JC physically and verbally abused Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon a couple of weeks ago.

Tony Hall, the BBC Director-General issued an official statement regarding Clarkson and his non-existent future with the Top Gear TV show: "It is with great regret that I have told Jeremy Clarkson today that the BBC will not be renewing his contract. It is not a decision I have taken lightly. I have done so only after a very careful consideration of the facts and after personally meeting both Jeremy and Oisin Tymon. [...] I know how popular the programme is and I also know that this decision will divide opinion. The main facts are not disputed by those involved."

Top Gear’s near future remains in doubt, after both James May and Richard Hammond hinted that they would not continue hosting the show without Jeremy Clarkson. Tony Hall made no mention of a replacement for either Jezza or his two sidekicks, but British reports that radio and TV personality Chris Evans was approached by the BBC to take over the show’s helm if Clarkson is ousted. Oisin Tymon’s own statement regarding Jezza’s sacking said: "I respect Lord Hall’s detailed findings and I am grateful to the BBC for their thorough and swift investigation into this very regrettable incident, against a background of intense media interest and speculation."
