Toyota RAV4 Hybrid



Toyota has been discussing creating hybrid versions of all of its volume-selling models by 2020. We’ve already seen one SUV go that direction, with the Highlander Hybrid debuting in 2006, and now that trend will continue with the introduction of the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid on April 2nd, 2015 at the New York Auto Show. To get us ready for the debut, Toyota has revealed a teaser image of the new hybrid SUV.


The details surrounding the hybridized RAV4 are still a closely guarded secret, but there were a few details that I was able to pick out from the teaser image. Additionally, with Toyota already offering a compact hybrid SUV in the form of the 2015 Lexus NX 300h, figuring out the RAV4’s drivetrain is simple.


While I appreciate Toyota going the hybrid route with the RAV4, there is a little uncertainty surrounding the hybrid marketplace as a whole. In 2014, hybrid sales fell by 8.8 percent and it hasn’t recovered yet. Therefore, the issue with this reveal is whether there is a market for a new hybrid SUV or not.
