Troy Bayliss announces retirement from WSBK

Troy Bayliss

Motorsport fans were delighted when Troy Bayliss announced that he will be back on the saddle of the Ducati as a replacement for the injured Davide Giugliano. Bayliss couldn't have asked for a better destination to make a comeback as he raced in front of his home fans at Phillip Island in Australia. The 45-year-old Australian legend though has announced permanent retirement from racing after the following round in Thailand which took place this weekend. There were rumours that Bayliss would continue to race for the remainder two races of the season which Giugliano would miss but the above announcement has quashed those speculations.

The three time WSBK champion returned to the sport after a gap of seven years and was riding the Ducati 1199 Panigale R. The biggest challenge for Bayliss was to adapt to the track-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale R given the short time period he has on hand. Despite the odds, Bayliss finished 8th and 11th in Thailand which showcases the class of the Aussie legend. Although his stint in WSBK was a short one, we need applaud the grit and hunger of the 45 year veteran.

Speaking on the retirement, Troy Bayliss said, "I've had a great time. I didn't expect to win, it was great to experience it all again but I've had my time so I am happy to go home and enjoy my family, and leave it to the young guys."
