Nissan X-Trail


The third-generation Nissan X-Trail is here, and it shucks the old rough-stuff demeanor in favor of paved utility, with a sleeker, more streamlined and stylish appearance, tons of technology and safety features, and an efficient diesel drivetrain. The Nissan says the new model “combines Nissan’s 4x4 heritage with fresh ideas and technologies inspired by the brand’s ground-breaking crossover models.” However, even though it still comes with available AWD, its ability to conquer anything in the dirt is questionable.

All told, the new X-Trail is clearly aimed at meeting the needs of a wide variety of folks, rather than those individuals who spend their weekends winching up mud-splattered crevasses. The updates are designed with an eye to roughing it in the daily to-and-fro, not the great outdoors.

But that’s ok, despite the slight misnomer. The X-Trail is one of Nissan’s best-sellers, and that position will likely get a boost thanks to this new refresh.
