Toyota sales dipped by 2.7 percent in May 2015 on account of plant shutdown for annual maintenance according to the company. Toyota has shut the plant from May 29 to June 6 during which time, production is completely halted. This could impact sales in the month of June as well.

In the 29 working days last month, the company sold 11,511 units, 320 less than the same period in 2014. The Etios and Liva series cars have seen a 12 percent rise in sales since airbags were standardized across all variants in October 2014. The recently launched Camry facelift accounted for 107 units, registering 51 percent growth compared to the corresponding period in 2014. Of the 107 units, 91 percent sales were of the Camry Hybrid, clearly proving its success in the segment. The Camry Hybrid's prices have fallen by Rs 70,000 since launch, an incentive under the FAME scheme.

N Raja, Director and Senior Vice - President, Sales and Marketing said, "The Hybrid market though still at a nascent stage is beginning to gain popularity among Indian customers. We would like to thank the customers for their response and also the Govt for the introduction of incentives under FAME. Camry is the first locally produced Hybrid vehicle to get the recognition from Govt for being an environment friendly vehicle. As committed the incentive of Rs 70,000/- in full has been passed on to the customer."

Toyota is testing the next generation Innova in India for an introduction sometime towards the end of this year and the next-gen Fortuner will follow mid next year. Both successful cars for the Japanese carmaker, these will be the next big launches for Toyota in India.
