Datsun has taken the wraps off the Go-Cross concept at its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. The Go-Cross is based on the Go+ MPV but looks a lot more premium than current Datsun offerings. Styling will most likely be toned down a fair bit when the crossover comes into production.
The Go-Cross sports typical crossover styling elements like chunky wheel arches, body cladding all along, large rounded fog lamps that are high set and roof rails. No details have been mentioned in the release from the company but going by the pictures, and the 'Cross' tag, expect higher ground clearance, and protection under the front and rear bumpers.
A smart set of 17 inch alloy wheels and plenty of LED lighting are features we aren't sure will carry over to the production model. Even Datsun doesn't mention if the car will make it to the assembly line, but if it does, at least in India, the brand needs a major boost in terms of desirability and this very well could be the model that brings that to the table.
All Datsun needs to ensure is that the production car isn't too watered down from the concept we see here.
It's tough times for Volkswagen due to the emissions scandal that has impacted the brand the world over. In India, the company came under the scanner last month to check if the Indian arm has been flouting any laws and so to clear the air, literally, Volkswagen India met the Heavy Industries Ministry and the ARAI.
Volkswagen Group India representatives have met Government of India andndash; Ministry of Heavy Industries and ARAI yesterday and have updated them on the evaluations so far on the ongoing emissions issue with reference to India.
The company says that since there is a complex combination of several brands, various models, different engine variants and gearboxes as well as different model years that need to be analysed, establishing detailed facts is taking a longer time.
Volkswagen Group India will present its results from the evaluations by the end of November 2015. During this period, the company representatives will stay in regular touch with ARAI to keep the authorities updated on the analysis.
The 'Dieselgate' scandal revolves around the EA189 engine family - the set of 4-cylinder 1.6 and 2.0-litre TDI diesels. The 1.5-litre diesel engine that powers the new Polo, Vento and Rapid also comes under the same engine family. It is yet to be determined if the cars produced in India by the VW group are also part of the 11 million vehicles that fall under the emission cheating scandal.
ARAI had decided last month to investigate if Volkswagen has used defeat device to cheat emission tests in India. The automotive testing agency haD been directed by the government to carry on the probe and ARAI had sought details from the German car manufacturer on this matter.

Earlier this year in August, Toyota took the wraps off the 2016 Fortuner and launched it in the international market a few months later. Since then there have been a lot of speculations about when the model will make its way to Indian shores. ZigWheels.com recently learnt that the Japanese car maker will only bring it to India towards the end of 2016.
Just like the current generation model, Toyota will continue to produce the 2016 Fortuner at its plant in Bangalore. Toyota is currently in talks with vendors and is concentrating on localisation of the product prior to the launch next year. However, they are still to finalise as to how much of the car will be locally produced, keeping in mind Toyota's global quality standards. Toyota Motor Corporation has allocated enough funds to the Indian sub-division for future offerings like the 2016 Fortuner and the 2016 Innnova.
Toyota has already launched the 2016 Fortuner in Thailand. Aside from having an all new design, the 2016 Fortuner gets a new 2.8-litre direct injection four-pot turbocharged motor that will produce 177PS of power. The 2016 Fortuner too will come with a manual and an automatic gearbox option producing 420Nm and 450Nm respectively.
While Toyota will bring the new Fortuner late last year, Ford too has launched the new Endeavour in the international market and is expected to launch it in India in the first quarter of 2016. Mitsubishi will also be bringing in the new Pajero Sport. Meanwhile, the first manufacturer to make the move in this segment is Chevrolet as they launched the Trailblazer last week.
Ford, now the fifth-largest vehicle manufacturer in the world, has issued three recalls affecting roughly 131,000 vehicles worldwide, with most registered in the U.S. While two of the recalls are for 2016 model-year vehicles, the largest number of recall affects SUVs from 2009 and 2010.
The first recall is for select 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles, of which 110,636 vehicles registered in the U.S. and 18,187 registered in Canada are affected. This recall stems from concerns that the brackets holding the SUV's fuel tank in place may suffer from corrosion. If that's the case, the fuel tank may not be properly restrained, resulting in a fuel odor, the triggering of a "check engine" light, or in some cases, a fuel leak, and potentially, a cause for fire.
The recall is limited to vehicles that were manufactured at Ford's Oakville Assembly Plant between September 11, 2008 and July 1, 2010.
The second recall affects the Ford Mustang, one of America's most iconic muscle or pony cars, of which 1,900 cars registered in the U.S., one registered in Canada, and five registered in Mexico are affected. In this case, Ford believes that passenger restraints may have been damaged in shipping from the supplier to Ford's assembly plant. The parts in question include the front and rear seatbelt assemblies, rear seat buckle assemblies, and child tethers.
If those items were damaged, Ford says that they may not perform as intended during an accident, increasing the likelihood of injuries and fatalities. However, Ford says that it knows of no accidents or injuries linked to the issue.
The last recall is a relatively smaller issue, affecting just seventy-two 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles in the US and Canada. Here, Ford has detected a software problem that could prevent the trailer brake controller from working properly. According to Ford: "In these vehicles, the trailer brakes do not engage when the driver presses the brake pedal".
Although drivers can manually apply the trailer brakes, doing so may lengthen the distance required to bring the vehicle and trailer to a full stop. Again, Ford says that it has no reports of accidents or injuries associated with the problem.
If you own any of the models listed above, manufactured in the years also listed above, Ford should be contacting you soon. Failing that, we'd suggest you get in touch with your local Ford dealership or representative soon.
