Tokyo 2015: India bound Suzuki Ignis revealed

Suzuki Ignis

Suzuki had showcased the iM-4 concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and hinted that the production version of the car isn't far off. True to their word, they unveiled the Suzuki Ignis at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan. The Suzuki Ignis is a mini SUV and shares the lightweight compact car platform with the Maruti Baleno that was launched earlier this week in India. The new Ignis is also the first crossover offering from the Japanese carmakers stable. On the design front, the Suzuki Ignis has gladly retained most of the styling cues from the iM-4 concept which is a good thing.

The front end of the car is dominated by the LED infused headlamps which have been neatly integrated into the chrome grille, while the bumper is a simple unit with chrome tipped fog lamps. The design detail that stands out has to be the triangular rear quarter glass panel which is edgy and cool. The tail gate is raked out and a simple tail lamp rounds off the rear. The interiors of the Suzuki Ignis is a rather uncomplicated with a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system and bright instrument console with MID.

Providing firepower to the Suzuki crossover is a 1.2-litre displacement DualJet petrol engine paired to a SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. Transmission duties are handled by a CVT gearbox and it would be offered with standard front wheel drive layout and optional 4WD. Talking about dimensions, the Ignis measures up to 3700mm x 1660mm x 1595mm in length, width and height, which means its marginally longer than the Renault Kwid and will be a sub-4 metre offering. The Suzuki Ignis is expected to make its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
