The Lexus RX debuted back in 1999 as the RX 300. It underwent a name change in 2004 to the RX 330 when Lexus replaced the 3.0-liter V-6 with a 3.3-liter. Another name change to RX 350 came in 2007 with the introduction of a 3.5-liter V-6. In 2010, the RX 350 underwent a complete overhaul, and in 2013, Lexus updated its looks slightly to better align with the brand’s evolving style. As we head into the 2016 model year, Lexus has completely redesigned the RX and the automaker has released a teaser image ahead of its April Fool’s Day reveal.
The teaser image that Lexus revealed doesn’t give away too much, but there are a few cues that match up with past renderings of the next-gen RX. Another mystery behind the new RX is its drivetrain, as there are whispers that Lexus could move the midsize crossover to a rear-wheel-drive platform. For now this remains just a rumor, so let’s dive in and have a look at what the new RX could offer.
