Ferrari has officially taken the wraps off its newest convertible mid-engined V8 supercar, the 488 Spider. The new Ferrari 488 Spider gets a hard top convertible which folds down neatly into a compartment between the driver's compartment and the engine bay. The 488 is also equipped with a twin turbo V8 engine that makes a staggering 670PS of peak power.
The Ferrari 488 Spider is the most powerful retractable hard top roadster ever built and has a mix of conventional materials like Aluminum and more exotic materials like magnesium and carbon fibre making it almost 25 percent stiffer than the 458 Spider before it.
Power comes from a 3.9-litre V8 twin turbo engine that is also used in the 488GTB. Making 670PS at a staggering 8000rpm and 760Nm of torque at 3000rpm. This gives the 488 Spider a 0-100kmph time of only three seconds and a top speed of over 320kmph. In fact, the Ferrari 488 Spider can do a sprint of 0-200kmph in just 8.7 seconds making it a serious fast car. The Ferrari 488 Spider is not only faster than the 458 but also much greener as it makes less CO2 emissions than ever before.
In terms of other tech that makes the 488 one of the best cars in the market today, the Ferrari gets a blown spoiler and an underbody aerodynamic vortex generator to give it even more down force than before. The flying buttresses are also completely redesigned to improve airflow and of course add to the aesthetic beauty of the Ferrari.
The Ferrari 488 spider joins a long list of drop top mid-engined-V8 Ferraris that started from the 308, 328, 348, 355, F430 and of course the Ferrari 458. The public unveil of the Ferrai 488 Spider will be at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
