The last week has been traumatic for Volkswagen AG. First, they were found to have been cheating on U.S. emissions testing. A few days later, Martin Winterkorn resigned from his position as CEO of VAG. At the time, the German auto group didn’t know who would be Winterkorn’s successor, but they did have a couple potential candidates. Word has finally come down the line in the form of a press release, and Matthias Muller has officially been appointed as the new CEO of VAG. Muller is the current chairperson of Porsche AG, and will continue that role as well until a successor for him can be appointed.
Muller claims his most urgent task will be to win back Volkswagen’s trust. He says he will leave no stone unturned and will do so with maximum transparency. He believes that, with his leadership, VAG will emerge from this scandal stronger than ever. Muller is valued for his decisiveness and ability to be a team player. Muller’s current contract as a board member of VAG remains intact and doesn’t expire until 2020.
