Last year brought us a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro that’s lighter, more compact, and more powerful than ever. More of a sports coupe aimed at the BMW 4 Series rather than a traditional muscle car, the 2016 Camaro is making headlines and winning awards only months after its official debut. Granted, the sixth-gen Camaro is an awesome pony car, but things will get a lot more interesting over the next couple of years, when Chevy will release new Z/28 and ZL1 models. Having already discussed what the next ZL1 might bring to the table, it’s time to have a closer look at the ZL1 Convertible, arguably the most exciting high-performance, drop-top muscle from Detroit.
Although GM has yet to confirm that a new ZL1 Convertible is underway, a supercharged cabriolet is definitely in the making given the success of the previous version. What’s more, a camouflaged prototype that was spotted recently on the road looked very similar to the beefed-up coupe we saw testing earlier this year. With this unofficial confirmation in the bag, we commissioned our talented rendering artist to put together a ZL1 Convertible based on the new Camaro, and even though we have yet to see the ZL1 coupe in the metal, we’re pretty sure this is what the actual car will look like.
We will find out if we nailed it or not by the end of 2016. Until then, have a look at our speculative review below.
