Audi to reveal a new V8 TDI

Audi Prologue Concept

Audi has been planning to bring in improved version of its TDI engine for a while now. Recent reports suggest that the Ingolstadt based car maker is set to unveil the next generation of the V8 TDI at the 2016 Vienna Motor Sumposium. Although there hasn't been an official communication from the luxury car maker, there have been endless rumours about the official unveil in April.

This new diesel unit is expected to make about 400 horses of peak power and churn out maximum torque of 677Nm. The torque rating in this unit is as of now lower than the current generation model; expect it to be higher when the engine is officially unveiled next month. Certain sources claim that the thanks to this new V8 TDI, the 2017 Audi A8 will be able to do the 0-100kmph dash in just over four seconds. Along with the Audi's flagship sedan A8, this new engine will also be seen on other Volkswagen Group models including the Porsche Panamera and the next-generation Bentley Continental GT.

Along with this new V8 TDi, Audi is also expected to be unveiling a new electrically assisted V6 TDI unit. This engine will essentially be an evolution of the unit that was shown in the RS5 TDI prototype. It is expected to feature a centrifugal supercharger in order to deliver a sport drive and quick throttle response. Initially, these units will only be seen in the European markets with it making its way to India sometime next year with the launch of the next-generation A8.
