Maruti Suzuki India, an arm of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), has commenced the export of the Baleno hatchback to the European market. The carmaker seems to have decided to have the new premium hatchback well in stock prior to its showcase at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show. The 2016 Geneva Show, which starts from tomorrow, will be open to the press on March 1st and 2nd, following which it will be open to the general public from 3rd to 13th March.
The shipments of the Baleno hatchback commenced a week back. Before Europe, Maruti Suzuki India has already exported the Baleno to Suzuki's home market, Japan. SMC has mentioned that the new Baleno had made its world debut at the previous Frankfurt Motor Show and is now ready to enter the European market. The company has declared that the Baleno will go on sale by this spring in Europe. The first consignment which was sent to Japan consists of 1800 units and will be launched in the Land of the Rising Sun next month. The Japanese car manufacturer is also setting up a new manufacturing plant to supply cars in India.
After Japan and Europe, Maruti has further plans to export the Baleno to over 100 international markets. The development of the Baleno hatchback was assisted by Rs 1,060 crore of investment from Maruti Suzuki India and its supplying partners.
