When you've already built a car that can withstand machine gun fire, grenades and boasts of a VR9 ballistic protection level, how do you outdo yourself? Simple, you take your most luxurious car and make it VR10. That is the safety rating the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard boasts of and it also happens to be the safest civilian vehicle ever built and is a level up from the VR9 S-guard. The Maybach can withstand constant fire of hardened steel bullets from assault rifles and probably packs more armour than a Panzer tank.
Merc says they've used special steels and 'other materials' in the basic structure as well as the bodywork of the car. Armour plating is placed in layers especially at joints between two panels to enhance protection. The windows though are fixed but are coated with splinter resistant polycarbonate to prevent shattering. The underbelly of the car too features thick armour plating to withstand explosions. Even the sides of the car can withstand grenades and IEDs. Needless to say it comes with its own oxygen supply and can sever the outside air supply completely if required. The Michelin tyres come with steel rings to ensure they don't come off in a flat.
The powertrain will be the same 6.0-litre V12 from the S-guard which makes 523PS of max power and 830Nm of peak torque. The suspension will be beefed up to cope with the sheer weight of the behemoth which will be more than the S-guard which weighed a hefty 4.5 tonnes. The car will be launched on the 8th of March 2016 and when launched will probably cost north of Rs 13.0 Crores.
