One of the most popular SUVs in India, the Mahindra Scorpio was spotted testing in a limited edition avatar recently. The most remarkable features that can be observed in the spy shots are a set of new black alloy wheels, red callipers and graphic designs on the exterior to impart the limited edition a definitive sporty appearance.
Spotted late in the night, the test mule was heavily camouflaged. However, silver coloured cladding on the lower body and matching door handles could be clearly seen. The SUV also features an extended floating roof on the rear with chrome rails on top of it.
Expect the limited edition Scorpio to also get updated upholstery in a refreshed cockpit. Features like climate control, parking sensors, TPMS, and a 6-inch touch screen infotainment system could come as standard and get modern-day additions to enhance the sporty appeal of the new offering from the Indian automaker.
As for the technical specifications, the Scorpio could come with an in-house 2.2-litre mill, to be co-developed with SsangYong or the 2.2-litre mHawk. The Supreme Court has recently banned the sale of diesel vehicles with 2000cc or bigger engines in New Delhi. Mahindra recently downsized its 2.2-litre diesel motor to 1.99-litre as a result and is expected to restart sales of the XUV500 and Scorpio in Delhi soon. The car will come with a five-speed manual transmission while it remains to be seen whether it will also get an automatic variant.
Competing with the likes of the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and the Tata Safari Storme, the limited edition Scorpio could be priced a couple of lakhs above its current model.
