Ford Mustang

The sixth-generation Ford Mustang arrived in late 2013 for the 2015 model year as the company’s most advanced pony car yet. Not only redesigned inside and out, the new Mustang also gained an independent rear suspension, a first for the muscle car since its inception in 1964. The new generation also markets the return of the four-cylinder ’Stang, with Ford adding a turbocharged, 2.3-liter EcoBoost to the usual V-6 and V-8 engine lineup. The sixth-gen Mustang is scheduled to receive its mid-cycle facelift for the 2018 model year.

Scheduled to break cover in the first half of 2017, the revised Mustang is already testing on public roads, being caught on the move on numerous occasions. The convertible is also being put through its paces, but unfortunately both versions have just enough camouflage to hide their new features. On the other hand, it doesn’t look as if Ford has changed too much on the outside, so it’s safe to assume that most upgrades will occur inside and under the skin.

The facelift is supposed to keep the pony car fresh until the next-generation model arrives, most likely in 2020. With a brand-new Camaro on the road and a new Challenger likely to arrive soon, the Mustang’s mission is becoming increasingly difficult. Will FoMoCo deliver a good enough vehicle to keep up with Chevy and its lighter Camaro? Keep reading to find out.
