Mercedes is on a mission to replace its models every six years or so. So, with the current generation A-Class turning four years old for 2016, it was no surprise to us when we saw the next-gen prototype putting in some work somewhere in Europe. It’s been a few weeks, but like clockwork, Mercedes was out playing around again, but this time, it was playing in the upcoming Mercedes-AMG A43. As of now, the prototype is in the very early stages, so there’s lots of camo and padding, a pair of decoy taillights in the rear, and a very fake radiator grille. But, that isn’t to say that we can’t identify some of the changes we can expect when the model does shed its prototype skin.
It has also been rumored that the A-Class would be offered in two different body styles. There will, of course, be the five-door hatch, but Mercedes is also said to be considering a four-door sedan. So far, there has been zero confirmation as to whether that A-Class sedan will ever become a reality, and we’ve yet to see it stretching its wheels, so look at that rumor with plenty of skepticism for now. What we can tell you is that, regardless of whether or not the A-Class will come in a new body style, the next-gen model will bring some evolutionary changes.
Mercedes still has some work to do before this prototype is officially production-ready, but let’s take the time to look over it and see what we can make out so far.
