ZigWheels has learnt that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is scheduled to be launched in the last week of November. At the time of the launch, the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be made available in twovariants andndash; the C200 petrol and the C220 CDI. It is expected to be launched at a starting price of around Rs 35 lakh.
The new C-Class gains its inspiration from the company's flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The new C-Class will sport the Stuttgart-based luxury car maker's latest design language. The long hood blends well into the twin-slat grille that also houses the three-pointed star. Like its older siblings, it now carries a softer and rounder profile with its stroke like shoulder line gently merging with the LED headlights. Replacing the W04 C-Class, the W05 version looks a lot younger, thanks to its short front overhangs and low stance.
The 2015 C-Class is more spacious inside too, which is obvious - knowing that it gains its inspiration from the luxurious S-Class. The cabin design with the wooden centre console looks elegant.
Under the hood, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will come with petrol as well as diesel engine options. The C200 petrol will get a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill expected to produce 211PS of power and 350Nm of torque, while the C220 diesel will be powered by a 2.2-litre capable of 170PS and 400Nm of torque. Both cars will be mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The first fleet of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is expected to be come to India via the CBU route. A single unit of the C220 CDI had landed on Indian shores for homologation as early as July while the petrol one has made its way to India as recently as October 28. The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will take on the likes of the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 Series.
Having invested a king's ransom of about 500 million UK Pounds (Rs 4,900 crore approx) on Jaguar Land Rover's new engine manufacturing plant, it was only fitting that the Queen of England was present to witness the inauguration event.
Jaguar Land Rover had announced its intention to build an engine manufacturing centre near at Wolverhampton in the West Midlands in September 2011. This new facility will be producing JLR's efficient and light weight Ingenium engines. The first engine to roll out of the facility will be the 2.0-litre turbo-charged diesel motor which will power the new generation of Jaguar Land Rover products including the Jaguar XE compact luxury sedan and the new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Speaking during the new plant opening, Ralf Speth, said, "Jaguar Land Rover is a business driven by design, technology and innovation and this investment and level of job creation is yet further evidence of our commitment to advancing the capability of the UK automotive sector and its supply chain."
The luxury car maker claims that the new one lakh square metre facility will create 1,400 new jobs and would house an engine-testing centre alongside manufacturing and assembly halls.
Global marketing information services firm, JD Power, has surveyed 7,416 vehicle owners in India, who purchased their vehicle between May 2012 and August 2013. The survey which is now in its 18th year, measures satisfaction among vehicle owners who visit an authorised dealership service centre for maintenance or repair work between the first 12 to 24 months of vehicle ownership. The study measures satisfaction across five factors such as service quality, vehicle pick-up, service advisor, service facility and service initiation.
The survey was conducted on a 1,000-point scale across these five factors, and based on the survey findings Maruti Suzuki has scored highest points and has emerged triumphant. According to the findings of the survey, the overall customer satisfaction averages to 856 points in 2014 which is a 22-point improvement as compared to 2013. The survey also reveals that the satisfaction has improved in all the above mentioned five factors year over year, and most notably in terms of service initiation, service quality and vehicle pick-up.
The findings reveal that the waiting time at the dealership has been reduced, as 85 per cent of customers indicate they were attended immediately on arrival at the service centre in 2014, up from 82 per cent in 2013. Additionally, 95 per cent of customers indicate they received proactive communication from their service advisor, compared with 93 per cent in 2013.
The study has also revealed that dealerships are proactively promoting their express maintenance/ quick service options, as 27 per cent of customers are offered this option for services such as an oil change in 2014, up from 22 per cent in 2013.
Commenting on these findings, Mohit Arora, Executive Director at JD Power Asia Pacific, Singapore, said, "The Indian automotive industry has been facing significant challenges over the past two years. Dealerships across most brands have risen to the challenge by placing stringent focus on a combination of implementing core processes and offering convenience, such as quick service, to ensure a superior customer experience with after-sales service."
The findings also reveal that customers expect to receive their vehicle within 20 minutes of their arrival at the dealership once service has been completed, an expectation that 85 per cent of customers indicate was met in 2014, up from two per cent as opposed to 2013.
Based on these key findings, the study reveals that Maruti Suzuki has been ranked highest in the overall customer survey, scoring a good 890 points. Honda and Hyundai ranked second in a tie with a score of 863 points.
The survey also found that owners who are highly satisfied are nearly twice as likely to recommend their service dealer to family and friends compared with those who are highly dissatisfied. Additionally, highly satisfied customers are twice as likely to revisit their service dealer for post-warranty service.
Maruti is on a roll. With the Ciaz and the new Swift already launched, the Manesar-based carmaker has now shifted focus towards its smaller Alto K10. Maruti will launch the new Alto K10 on November 3.
The new Maruti Alto K10 will get restyled and larger headlamps, a new chrome grille and a redesigned bumper and a new set of fog lamps. At the back, the taillights too will get a new design. The engine bay is now shorter than before which will effectively make more room on the inside. To carve out more cabin room, Maruti Suzuki has increased its width and height.
Talking about the interiors, the updated Alto K10 will also get a new dashboard and steering wheel. The silver-black combination has nicely been integrated into the centre console, steering wheel and the instrument cluster. The quality of plastic will also see an improvement over the outgoing model.
The changes on the new Alto K10 will not just be restricted to the design and features. Although the Alto K10 will continue to sport the same 1.0-litre engine with the exact same power and torque ratings, it has been remapped to deliver better fuel efficiency. The Alto K10 facelift will also come with an optional AMT transmission.
The updated Maruti Alto K10 will take on the likes of the Hyundai Eon 1.0-litre and the Datsun Go when it is launched next week.
