Having invested a king's ransom of about 500 million UK Pounds (Rs 4,900 crore approx) on Jaguar Land Rover's new engine manufacturing plant, it was only fitting that the Queen of England was present to witness the inauguration event.
Jaguar Land Rover had announced its intention to build an engine manufacturing centre near at Wolverhampton in the West Midlands in September 2011. This new facility will be producing JLR's efficient and light weight Ingenium engines. The first engine to roll out of the facility will be the 2.0-litre turbo-charged diesel motor which will power the new generation of Jaguar Land Rover products including the Jaguar XE compact luxury sedan and the new Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Speaking during the new plant opening, Ralf Speth, said, "Jaguar Land Rover is a business driven by design, technology and innovation and this investment and level of job creation is yet further evidence of our commitment to advancing the capability of the UK automotive sector and its supply chain."
The luxury car maker claims that the new one lakh square metre facility will create 1,400 new jobs and would house an engine-testing centre alongside manufacturing and assembly halls.
