It was glad tidings for Aprilia as it won the constructors tile in the 2014 World Superbike series. It was the third consecutive occasion that the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer has won the constructors title in the WSBK series to stamp their authority. In fact Aprilia has been Manufacturer World Champion for four years since it made their debut in the series with Aprilia RSV4 in 2009.
Apart from raking up the constructors title, Aprilia rider Sylvain Guintoli also won the riders title for the first time in his career to hand the Italian bikemaker a double delight. But it wasn't an easy task for Guintoli who was trailing leader Tom Sykes by 44 points with just three races remaining. But a string of impressive performances in the closing stages of the season resulted in Guintoli piping Sykes by six points for the crown.
Aprilia won a total of 11 wins in the 2014 season of WSBK (5 for Guintoli, 6 for Melandri). This enabled the Italian outfit to score a grand total of 468 points to take the championship ahead of Kawasaki which finished with 431 points. The manufacturer from Noale now totals 7 World Superbike championships in the last five years and a total of 54 world championship titles won in just over twenty years.
