In a recent announcement, Force India Formula 1 driver has declared that he will be driving the third entry for Porche in the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. The German will be driving the Porsche in the LMP1. But before he moves to the big race in France, Hulkenberg will also drive at the 6 Hours of Spa in May.
"Porsche and Le Mans - this combination probably attracts every race driver," Hulkenberg said. "I've been a Porsche fan for a long time and have been watching their return to the LMP1 class closely. The desire grew to drive that car at Le Mans," he added.
Thankfully for Hulkenberg, the dates of 6 Hours of Spa-Franchorchamps as well as 24 Hours of Le Mans do not fall on the same weekend as any of the Formula1 races.
Hulkenberg thanked Force India for allowing him to race at Le Mans: "I am very pleased the 2015 Formula One calendar allows for it and I'm grateful to my Sahara Force India Formula One Team's generosity to let me go for it.
The Sahara Force India driver isn't the first F1 driver to compete in Le Mans, the most recent driver to make the shift was Mark Webber who also moved to Porsche after retiring from F1 at the end of 2013.
Only four drivers, Mike Hawthorn, Phil Hill, Jochen Rindt and Graham Hill have taken top honours in both Formula1 as well as Le Mans.
