Mahindra Racing announced that it has pulled out of Moto3 as a factory team from the 2015 Moto3 season onwards. This doesn't mean that the Indian outfit will quit the sport entirely as it will be present in Moto3 as an engine supplier. For this purpose it has joined hands with Aspar Team owned by Jorge Martinez. Under the new structure, the Aspar Team will focus on running the team and developing the riders, while Mahindra Racing's task at hand would be development of the motorcycle. Four teams have signed an agreement with Mahindra Racing and the 2015 season of Moto3 will feature nine Mahindra MGP3O motorcycles, one more than the preceding season
The announcement was made by Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group in the presence of Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP rights-holder Dorna Sports and Jorge 'Aspar' Martinez CEO of Mahindra Racing's new partner, the Aspar Team. Mahindra Racing also stated that they have opened a new European technical base at Besozzo near Varese in Northern Italy. This deal seems to be a win-win situation for both Mahindra Racing andamp; Aspar Team. As Mahindra will be associated with the sport while developing the motorcycle will only benefit Mahindra Two Wheelers the main reason why Mahindra group entered the sport. As for Aspar it would only have to run a racing team and not worry about the development of the bike and its components.
Speaking on the announcement, Anand Mahindra said, "We are still at a relatively early phase of our journey in motor sport, but the technological challenge and learning that we achieve through our racing programmes are of major importance to the whole Group. The international footprint and high-profile of MotoGP helps us build the Mahindra brand globally. We are also strengthening our technical skills with the opening of a new development centre in Italy. This becomes part of our neural network of innovation along with other Randamp;D facilities in India, Korea and the US."
