Volkswagen compact sedan spied before Auto Expo debut

Volkswagen compact sedan spied before Auto Expo debut

After the recent announcement of the advancement of the next-gen Maruti Swift Dzire's launch, there's more good news coming in from this segment as the Polo-based compact sedan from Volkswagen was spied testing ahead of its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo in February.

Having faced delays for its final styling and proportions, the new car, codenamed ICS, seems to have finally got its exteriors locked down now. The spy photos that emerged recently suggest that this new sub-four-metre offering from the German automaker underpins more or less a Polo frame, with an elongated boot.

Under the hood, the compact sedan is expected to get it mechanicals from the Polo with the 1.2-litre MPI and TSI engines as the petrol options and a 1.5-litre diesel mill from its hatchback cousin. A seven-speed DSG transmission is expected to be mounted on the top-spec verison.

It was earlier announced by VW that the new compact sedan, specifically designed and developed for India, will make its world premiere at Auto Expo 2016 in February. Production is expected to commence at Volkswagen's plant at Chakan, Pune in the first half of 2016. When launched, this new sedan will rival the likes of the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent and the Figo Aspire in its segment.
