Vettel signs three year deal with Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel

Putting an end to prolonged speculation, Sebastian Vettel has finally signed a three-year deal with Ferrari. The reigning champion didn't quite have the kind of season that he would have hoped for and repeatedly expressed that he couldn't get used to the new Red Bull. The Italian team also declared that Fernando Alonso will no longer be part of the driver lineup and the four-time champion will be partnered by Kimi Raikkonen.

Marco Mattiacci, Ferrari Team Principal said, "In Formula One terms, Sebastian Vettel is a unique combination of youthfulness and experience and he brings with him that sense of team spirit which will prove invaluable when, together with Kimi, they tackle the challenges awaiting us, as we aim to be front runners again as soon as possible." Vettel has been a dominant force in Formula1 in the recent years. The German has taken four championship titles with 38 Grands Prix wins and 44 pole positions since the time he signed up with Red Bull in 2009.

"When I was a kid, Michael Schumacher in the red car was my greatest idol and now it's an incredible honour to finally get the chance to drive a Ferrari," Vettel said. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso is yet to confirm his drive for the upcoming season of Formula1, but rumour has it that he is in talks with McLaren. The Spaniard had two more years before his contract expired but the he and the team mutually agreed to part ways.
