Under this new contract Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group, will supply Cote D'Ivoire with 3600 vehicles. The contract is estimated to be worth US $200 million (about Rs 1,335 crore). This contract is being funded by EXIM Bank of India and is pending final clearance from respective governments. The vehicles, which include trucks and buses, will be delivered by Ashok Leyland over the next 12 months.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Vinod K. Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland said, "I am proud that the Government of Cote D'Ivoire has chosen products from Ashok Leyland, well-renowned for their reliability and quality. This is the largest contract for this country with any firm in India, and also represents the largest such contract till date for the Company. We are proud to be partnering with the visionary government of Cote D'Ivoire, and look forward to building this as a base for further growth in West Africa. I also would like to acknowledge the tremendous support from EXIM Bank, Ministry of Commerce, and the Indian Embassy in bringing this large contract to fruition."
Shares of Ashok Leyland were trading at Rs 97.70 per scrip, up 0.21 per cent on the BSE on Monday.
