New images of the Tata Zica have been leaked before its global unveil. These are the first ever pictures of the car in its production form and at first glance, the new Tata product does look quite appealing. The new Tata Zica as Zigwheels.com reported earlier, should be priced just a tad bit under Rs 4 lakhs and will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. Incidentally, the word Zica comes from an amalgamation of the first two letters of the word ZIppy CAr.

The new Tata Zica, originally codenamed Kite is essentially a hatchback that will slot in between the Nano and the Bolt. At first glance, the new design is a radical departure from the aging Indica design language. The new Zica features a very prominent grille which has a set of stretched out headlamps that fuse into it. The new car also has a set of alloy wheels and a smart looking front bumper and with chrome fog lamp bezels.

Other features will include a ORVM mounted indicator, steering mounted audio and phone controls and a Bluetooth enabled infotainment system. The new Tata Zica will also get ABS, EBD and dual airbags on the top of the line variants.

The Zica will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine that is expected to make in the region of 85PS of peak power and about 110Nm of peak torque. This naturally aspirated engine could be used in other future products too in parallel to the turbocharged Revotron engine.

The Zica will also get a 1.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor that is said to make just under 70PS of peak power and about 140Nm of peak torque. The engine will essentially be a three cylinder of the tried and tested 1.4-litre turbo diesel that has been doing its duty in the Indica and the Indigo CS for the last few years. The diesel is expected to return over 25kmpl in terms of fuel mileage.

As we mentioned earlier, the Tata Zica will be launched in India in January 2016 and will be priced under Rs 4 lakh. The new Zica will go right up against the likes of the Hyundai i10, the Chevrolet Beat and the Maruti Celerio. The new Zica will also spawn a new compact sedan which will be priced a little higher than the hatchback and create an all new segment by itself.
