Hyundai has had a rewarding journey ever since its foundation in India, nearly two decades ago, which has seen it grow from pillar to post in the recent years. Managing director of HMIL YK Koo, in a press release, attributed his company's achievements to making India-specific products. "Hyundai today is a 10 product strong brand with class leading products from the Eon to Santa Fe. Hyundai has since inception focussed on make in India products, made for the world," he said, and went on to add, "Hyundai the largest exporter and the largest premium car manufacturer in India catering to the growing needs and demands of the aspirational Indian customer. Hyundai has witnessed success as the fastest growing sales milestone and we assure our commitment to the Indian car market."
The South Korean company, which first set foot in India in the year 1996 with India's first tall boy design automobile Santro, has expanded its repertoire across various segments. It currently has no less than ten car models in the form of Eon, i10, Grand i10, Elite i20, Active i20, Xcent, Verna, CRETA, Elantra and Santa Fe. The automaker's manufacturing plant near Chennai takes care of the advanced production, quality and testing duties. HMIL extends its services through 433 dealers and more than 1,100 service points across the country.
The Indian unit of Hyundai also forms a critical part of its global export hub. It currently exports to around 85 countries across Africa, Middle East, Latin America, Australia and the Asia Pacific.
