The Volkswagen Beetle is possibly one of the most recognizable automotive shapes in the world. Since its introduction in the 40s, the Beetle has sold more than 23 million units worldwide making it one of the highest sold cars ever made. Incidentally, the original Beetle bodystyle only went out of production in 2010. The new generation Beetle was unveiled to the world in 1998 and since then has been quite popular globally. In India the new generation Beetle was only available post 2008. Now though, Volkswagen India will soon launch the all-new 2015 Version of the Beetle in India with a new 1.4-litre turbocharged engine.
The new Beetle is larger than any other Beetle in history and of course, is more muscular and sportier than ever before. The new Beetle is also lower, wider and longer than the outgoing model. The three semi-circle design elements still exist but due to the windscreen rake on the new car the roof is a lot more coupe-ish than the car it replaces. All in all, the new Beetle will certainly help boost Volkswagen's image in India after the recent emissions fiasco.
A 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that makes an impressive 160PS of peak power will power the new Volkswagen Beetle. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox which in turn is mated to a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. Volkswagen claims that the new 1.4-litre engine is about 35percent more fuel efficient than the last generation car's powertrain while still offering more power than before. Sadly, there will be no diesel option in the new Beetle for India just yet.
