A large network and a slew of launches in the past year has helped Maruti Suzuki grow further this year, but more so in October 2015 due to the introduction of the facelifted Ertiga and Baleno. Maruti sold 1.21 lakh units last month, a 24.7 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2014. Exports grew 90.4 percent to 13,146 units, bringing the cumulative total to 1.34 lakh units, a rise of 29.1 percent.
The main reason for this rise in sales is the introduction of SHVS variants of the Ciaz and the Ertiga that has been cost effective to the company and fuel efficient to the customer. Adding to that is the commencement of sales of the Baleno premium hatchback last month. It's still early days but initial signs show of strong numbers for this car.
Going by segments, the compact Alto and Wagon R cumulatively sold 37,595 units, growing 5.2 percent last month. Larger hatchbacks in the Maruti range andndash; Celerio, Swift, Ritz, Baleno and the Swift Dzire compact sedan amounted to 51,048 units in total growing 37.7 percent.
Even sales of the Dzire tour, that now sells only in the taxi market has risen 142 percent, the reason most likely being the auspicious festive season coming up. Ciaz sales have fallen 7.2 percent compared to last year but 5,890 units isn't bad and is a sort of revival for the car after sales had fallen to about 3,000 units a few months ago. The SHVS variant introduction is the reason for this resurgence.
The Ertiga and S-Cross amounted to 9,435 units, a growth of 56.5 percent compared to last year, mainly due to introduction of the S-Cross and the facelift of the Ertiga.
